Once we were finished and able to unleash a horde of toddlers in Tyrese's apartment, secure in the knowledge that they would be perfectly safe when left to their own devices, we were too exhausted to move. We fell back on the couch, content that we had both completed a job well done.
"Just so you know," Tyrese began. "I wanted to say thanks for offering to help today."
"Oh, it was no problem at all," I said as I waved him off.
"No, really, you didn't have to help. Like, at all. But you did, and I'm really glad that you did. Seriously.
I wasn't sure if it was a result of how hard we had just been working or how hot it was in his apartment, but my heart all of a sudden began to beat real fast. And I mean real fast. With such tenacity was it thumping against my chest that I was all but sure that Tyrese could hear it.
"Seriously, it was fine," I waved him off again in an attempt to come off as casual as possible. "Anytime."
He smiled as he looked down at me, and although I did my best to look away, lest my face flush bright red, I couldn't help but be drawn back to his stare. Soon, our gazes met, he held mine, and then he leaned down and kissed me.
It was a kiss unlike any that we had ever shared. It wasn't the usual wet, sloppy, and lustful make-outs that we had done so many times. And it wasn't a simple peck on the lips. Rather, it was a soft and tender kiss. It was a warm kiss. Heck, it was a passionate kiss. It was a kiss that spoke of thanks, but also spoke of desire. It told me that he was grateful for what I had done today and more importantly, that he hoped to see me again.
The two of us were far too beat to go any further than just the kiss, but really, I didn't mind. Once we were done, we said our goodbyes, and I left feeling the best I had ever felt after leaving Tyrese's apartment. For the first time, I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that Tyrese was going to call me again. And I also knew that next time he did, it wouldn't be for something as simple as a booty call. No, he would call because he wanted to see me, and I already knew that I would want to see him.
